Many current welfare programs take away benefits when recipients find work, sometimes leaving them financially worse off than before they were employed, due to taxes that are deducted and other related costs (i.e., commuting, etc.) that come with going to work and having a job. And in a way, current welfare programs have actually made its recipients more dependent on it than to get jobs, because of this reason and so many other reasons and levels. With this kind of system in place, individuals have no incentive to accept jobs that are exploitative or have harsh working conditions when they can fall back on welfare programs instead. But even relying on welfare programs is not enough for any individual and/or family.
But, when every U.S. citizen, is provided $1,000/month UBI, this money is given with no strings attached, with no unemployment condition being attached as well. Thus, with every U.S. citizen receiving a $1,000/month UBI, each recipient would be more motivated to look for and take a job and seek additional income on top of the $1,000/month UBI each is already receiving as each recipient knows that the $1,000/month UBI won’t be taken away simply because one finds employment.
